RENEWABLE ENERGY, ENERGY EFFICIENCY, ENERGY SECURITY PROGRAMME

The Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Energy Security Programme (the “Programme”) is funded by the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism (EEA Grants) 2014-2021. The Ministry of Energy is designated as the Programme Operator (PO) of the Programme with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 on 09 December 2016. The Programme is implemented in partnership with the Norwegian Water and Energy Directorate "(NVE) and the National Energy Authority of Iceland (OS).

The main objective of the Programme is to reduce carbon intensity and increase security of supply by achieving the following results:

  • Increasing the production of energy from renewable sources.
  • Improving energy efficiency in buildings, industry and municipalities.
  • Raising expertise in renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy management.

PROJECT SELECTION PROCEDURE "REHABILITATION AND MODERNIZATION OF MUNICIPAL INFRASTRUCTURE - SYSTEMS FOR EXTERNAL ARTIFICIAL LIGHTING OF THE MUNICIPALITIES"

Under the project selection procedure "Rehabilitation and Modernization of Municipal Infrastructure - Systems for External Artificial Lighting of the Municipalities", provision of grants for reconstruction and modernization of the external lighting system(s) is foreseen.

Energy efficiency is and will remain a priority for the Republic of Bulgaria in the long run in the context of efforts to reduce energy consumption and dependence on imported energy resources.

Energy efficient lighting is a priority at both national and European level. Street lighting is one of the major energy consumers in the municipalities, which has an impact on the growth of energy consumption in recent years.

The "Rehabilitation and Modernization of Municipal Infrastructure - Systems for External Artificial Lighting of Municipalities" procedure aims to increase energy efficiency through technological upgrading and modernization of the external lighting systems owned by the Bulgarian municipalities and to improve the living conditions of the population.

Project proposals under this procedure must necessarily contribute to the achievement of the following Outcome 2 "Improved Energy Efficiency in Buildings, Industry and Municipalities" under the Programme:

  • Indicator 1: Estimated annual CO2 emission reductions - 118 000 tCO2/year.
  • Indicator 2: Estimated annual energy savings - 117 000 MWh/year.
  • Indicator 3: Estimated annual savings - 8,000,000 EUR /year.
